RCBHS was the host site for visiting talent recently at the annual Vocal Fest hosted by our own Vocal Intensity.
Vocal Fest is an RCB event providing opportunity for high school show choirs from our area and beyond perform and compete for the winning title. There were 8 show choirs this year: 7 high schools and 1 middle school.
The evening before the event, the Vocal Intensity hosts decorated their assigned classrooms in the theme of the school they would host the next day, accessing teachers' classrooms to seat and keep track of the groups to eliminate confusion. Without classroom access, mistakes would ensue, groups would be intertwined, people would be lost, and show choirs would be unprepared to perform. Upon their arrival at Byrd, the groups were each placed in a classroom with a VI host whose job entailed making the guests feel welcomed and guiding them when needed.
Many friends, families and fans came to see all the schools perform. It was a great way for everyone to get together and help to make something amazing happen showcasing student talent. Following the competitive performances, RCB’s show choir presented their show; of course, they couldn’t get a trophy, but Junior Jeremiah Johnson felt that it was one of their best performances, yet. If I could describe vocal fest as three words it would crazy, fun, and most importantly unforgettable.
Winning 1st Place were the Nitro High School Show Cats Show with a fabulous show and costumes. Runners-up was St. Clairsville High School's St. C Singers, and Second Runners-up were the Doddridge County High School's Bel Canto Bulldogs. Great job to all the groups, especially our own Vocal Intensity directed by Ms. Mack!
