Starting in 1961, Youth Art Month has aimed to bring attention to art education and recognize the importance of art in the betterment of lives. Youth Art Month has always been an important event for the Art Department at RCB. Art Teacher Mrs. Kathryn Crim, a local artist herself, has always put attention to the value of art education and the importance of expanding art education to not only RCB, but to the whole state of West Virginia, as well. Mrs. Crim has strived to increase school and community support for art education and serves as the committee chair for Youth Art Month and Arts Alive for the state. She was recently named the 2022 West Virginia Art Educator by the National Art Education Association.
Robert C. Byrd High School had several brilliant student artists submit work to the various competitions involving Youth Art Month, as well. In fact, Jacob Brannon won the Youth Art Month flag design contest. His design is the centerpiece for the 2022 West Virginia Youth Art Month with the theme of "Art Connects Us". In addition to Brannon's winning flag design, Lillian Lewis won the competition for the Youth Art Month certificate. Both the flag and certificate will represent Robert C Byrd and the art department well!
