A Season of Sports

by Annalise G.

This past weekend was a busy one for the Flying Eagles. Many teams put on a show for the Eagles and showed what RCB athletics are really made of.

To start off strong, the Region III swim meet was Saturday February 5th at the Bridge Sports Complex. The 9 swimmers from RCB went and gave it their all hoping to punch a ticket for the state meet.

On the boys side, Junior Jacob Howe had a great showing winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle. The 50 was an exciting close race, but Howe pulled through at the finish to win the regional title. Junior Adam Fubio also had a great weekend punching his automatic ticket in the 500 freestyle by placing 2nd and also placing 4th in the 200IM. Fubio will go to states in both the 500 freestyle and the 200 IM. Sophomore Kaden Meighen placed 3rd in both the 200 and 500 freestyle which automatically punches his ticket to the state meet as well. Other worthy performances are Senior Jackson Howe's 4th place finish in both the 100 and 200 freestyle and Sophomore Josiah Corley's 5th place finish in the 100 butterfly. Both Howe's and Corley's performance gave way to a state qualifications.

Finally the relay of Jacob Howe, Adam Fubio, Kaden Meighen and Jackson Howe had a stellar showing in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The 200 relay team won the meet and is seeded first going into states, and the 400 relay placed 2nd; both relays made it to the state meet. For the girls, Senior Annalise Gentilozzi placed 3rd in the 200 freestyle and won the 500 freestyle. Both automatically qualified her for the state meet as well.

On the basketball court, both girls and boys had games over the weekend. The girls fell to St. Albans. The score was 57-50, and Avery Childers had a 21-point game. The boys' team had a great showing against Lincoln. They were victorious in the match up with a score of 49-37. Junior Brayden Thomason led the way with a 16-point game.

Cheerleading had a busy weekend also. On Saturday, the Eagles hosted the RCB Cheer Classic. Although the Eagles didn't compete, they held a successful event with several area cheer teams in attendance.
