Running the Course

The Robert C. Byrd Cross Country Team did it again! With a small team, the 12 runners not only ran as individuals, but they ran as a unit. Returning coach Chad Feathers lead this small but mighty team. In these strange times, running in the midst of Covid-19 may seem impossible, or at the very least could bring some major setbacks. Even with the odds stacked against them, some on the team could say they ran some of the fastest times of their running career. The determination and perseverance showed with these runners. They strode towards the finish line and finished the season on a high note at regionals.

With some runners seasons coming to a close at regionals, some went further and made it to the state championship on Saturday, October 31st at Cabell Midland and showed some impressive times and placings. Senior Aliza Allman and Junior Luke Robinson each qualified for the state tournament, placing 7th and 6th respectively in the AA division. In the end, even with a pandemic and quarantine, the group fought through the adversity and ended on a stellar note.

A Tee-rific Season

It was quite the trio of golfers RCB had this season. Returning as the 2019 regional golf champs was quite the boost for these 3 golfers. Seniors Alex Hawkins and Tyler Stemple teamed up with Freshman Andrew Bowie to create a strong trio. These golfers had no trouble, even in the midst of Covid-19. Early on, the potential of having a great team was apparent. The 3 golfers shot low during the first games and continued the remainder of the season.

The talent was recognizable and with much momentum from the season, they excelled at regionals taking home the title at the Clarksburg Country Club, their home turf. All 3 golfers shot under 90, leading them to the title and a trip to Oglebay Resort in Wheeling. After the first day of golfing and the course not being ideal, they were in 6th place. However, they handled the adversity of the conditions of the course and ended 3rd at the end of the second day and finished 3rd in the AA tournament. Individually, Alex Hawkins finished 4th grabbing another first team all-tournament, all-state honor a follow-up to the 2019 state tournament.

The Golf Team finished a solid season on a high note with much of which to be proud.
