The Corona Virus is a devastating, world-wide pandemic affecting everyone, everywhere. Many families have suffered from the loss of loved ones, work stoppage, loss of income, and there are even more tragedies to come. Around the world, schools and campuses have been shut down. So, what are students to do?
West Virginia has handled this situation well. Currently, Harrison County Schools, as well as many throughout this state and others, are doing online classes. It took a while for both teachers and students to adjust. The teachers have been as resourceful and helpful as they can by allowing students to message them and by using video and auditory apps to communicate.
English and Journalism Teacher Ms. Boggs stated that she, "can't wait to see everyone again and be back in the classroom. This is challenging, but we are resilient and we will get through this!" The same sentiment was shared by Ms. Skubis who teaches English. Ms. Skubis says, "Online instruction has been a challenge, mostly because I want to SEE my students. Assigning work and not being able to help them face-to-face is very difficult, but being available 8-3 for messages helps. I really miss being with my students. I care about them so much- they're my kids! My advice is to social distance, discover some new hobbies, and keep yourselves safe." Several students have their own opinions on the situation. Sophomore Victoria Lopez said," Although it is a good time to spend and connect with your family, I miss the way life used to be with my friends and my school, but we can get through this!" Junior Blake Meighen is a student athlete who stated, "The virus has had a negative impact on my life. It has taken away a once in a lifetime opportunities with sports and it has taken away seeing my friends at school everyday."
Several RCB students are concerned about events such as Prom and Graduation. As of now, RCB's prom is on June 18 at Via Veneto from 7-10 p.m. and Graduation is on June 26 at 7 p.m. Hopefully, people continue to self quarantine and social distance from others, so these dates can stand. Don't forget to stay home, stay safe, and wash your hands! This is a tough time for everyone but we can get through this!
