Fall Convention was “Better than Good”

Fall convention was definitely a memorable time for the Robert C. Byrd Student Council members. Eight members represented RCB at the WVASC Fall convention. Along with the 8 students, 2 teachers came from RCB as advisors, Ms. Aliff and Ms Alonso. Taking place at Jackson’s Mill, the days spent there were jammed-packed with many memorable experiences that will definitely be a highlight of the year. One of the biggest highlights of the weekend was hearing the motivational speaker Keith Hawkins. Keith Hawkins is an international speaker that speaks and conducts programs influencing the outlook of a school or organization. He influences with positive messages, one of his most famous ones being “Better than Good”, sharing positive aspects and how one might view his or her life. These messages definitely had everyone on the edge of their seats.

Along with Hawkins, Monday night at the banquet President Gordon Gee of West Virginia University made a visit to Jackson's mill. As the keynote speaker, he shared his experiences and discussed how to make positive impacts. On Sunday night, the gavel ceremony was held. For this event, a representative from each school places a ribbon on a gavel to the outgoing state president. Ean Giaquinto did the honors for Robert C. Byrd. Andrew Davis was appointed to serve on the resolutions committee, publicly thanking all responsible people during the state business meeting.

Fall convention is about being stronger leaders and to meet new people along the way. They split everyone up into groups with people from other schools.. This created an opportunity to meet new people. Within the group, students performed a skit Sunday night at the bonfire, participated in the Olympics and conducted various workshops on leadership. The groups were a fun addition to the weekend. The theme this year was “Build-a-leader” and focused on helping the Hoops Family Hospital in Huntington by donating teddy bears and making blankets. Overall, Fall Convention was a fun, successful weekend. Thanks to Ms Aliff and Ms Alonso for giving RCB the opportunity to participate!

Representing RCB at the annual convention were: Advisor Ms. Aliff, Ally Wodnicki, Annalise Gentilozzzi, Lennon Auvil, Andrew Davis, Ean Giaquinto, Taylor Lough, Avery Childers, Kolby Lough, Advisor Kolby Alonso.
