What do you do for Thanksgiving? Do you go to a dinner and give thanks? Do you decorate the house or go on vacation? All of these are common Thanksgiving traditions. Some other common traditions include going to festivals, watching parades, playing football, and attending religious services. However, things have changed and are changing for Thanksgiving traditions. You may still do some of these today, and some you may have never heard.
Some old traditions include watching football, making place cards, sitting at the "kid's table" and splitting the wishbone. There are also some many people don't do anymore like taking a walk after dinner, staying over with family, and retelling the original Thanksgiving story. If you're looking for a new tradition, one of these might be for you.
If the old traditions bore you, then maybe one of these new traditions will be worth a shot. You could pass around a journal in which each family member writes something that they are thankful for. You could take a plate of food to family members who could not make it to dinner, or leave a spot for them at the dinner table. You could get a pair of Christmas pajamas on Thanksgiving to kick off the Christmas season. If none of these interest you, then you could do something in your community to serve others. Whether it be at an animal shelter or a soup kitchen, helping people is a nice and rewarding thing to do. If you feel that you're holiday traditions are getting boring or if you want to try something new this year, why not give one of these a try?
