In early September, students in the Sophomore class experienced a "Reality Day". During this day, students learned and practiced how to manage money. At first, students were given a sheet with a low paying job. The sheet included information about family life, income, and every expense. Volunteers had tables set up with necessities participants had to purchase. There were also things that one does not need but could purchase. At times, participants were given a card at random that had things they may have to pay for. For example, if the card said you broke your leg and it costs $100 dollars to fix it, then if you did not purchase health insurance, you'd have to pay that amount. Once you finished everything you needed on the card, you were given a job with better pay and a new family. The objective of this card is to have money left over instead of being in debt. Annalise G. participated in the program and states, "I thought Reality Day was a good way for us to get a look of some of the real life problems we will face."
