New Year, New Teachers!

Some folks still call RCB home, and our new music teacher, Mady McNemar, is no exception. She graduated from RCB back in 2005 and then attended Alderson-Broaddus College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education in 2009. Later that summer, McNemar relocated to Mississippi where she attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated 2011 having earned her Masters of Music in Choral Conducting. She entered the classroom as a teacher at Purvis High School and Middle School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where she taught choir and general music for seven years. And now, she has come full circle and returned to her Alma Mater to teach music.

McNemar considers her areas of expertise lay in teaching voice or choir, she along with clinic choreography and overall performance technique. When asked why teaching was her career choice she replied, "I had some really amazing teachers who inspired me. I also had some not-so-great teachers who inspired me. I want to give more to my students than I was given, and the art of teaching is something that is very comfortable and natural to me. I want students to be excited about music and apply what they know to their lives, even if they don't pursue it as a career."

In addition to her Byrd family Ms. McNemar's mother that lives in the area, and she has two sisters who live out of state as well as a "sassy little lady" her Shorkie named Betsy. We heartily welcome her.
