Outstanding Seniors

Robert C. Byrd High School recently announced its Boys and Girls of the Month for January and February.

Boy of the Month is Ethan David Meighen, the son of Chris and Laurie Meighen of Clarksburg.

While in high school, Ethan’s accomplishments and activities are immense. In addition to being a four-year member of the band where he currently serves as Drumline Captain, as well as being a four-year member of the basketball team and a two-year member of the tennis team, Ethan has amassed innumerable hours in service to others. A teen leader for the Harrison County 4-H where he completed the Charting Program, he has also served as 4-H Treasurer on two occasions and President on two occasions. Ethan received the Spirit of 4-H Award as a sophomore, and was named Mingo Tribe Chief as a senior.

A musician, an athlete, and a scholar, Ethan has participated in Math Field Day, was a Hugh O’Brian Academic All-Star, and was selected to attend the Governor’s Honors Academy. These accolades, as well as his participation on the Harrison County Dream TEAM, the Eagle Cabinet, the Interact club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Mayor’s Youth Council, the Student Council where he served as Freshman class Treasurer and Student Body Treasurer, and the National Honor Society in which he serves as Secretary, combine to make him the perfect recipient of the EQT Students of Excellence Award.

Ethan’s passion for working with youth led him to coordinate a Future Eagles Mentor program, as well as develop and present the “Do Drums Not Drugs” program for Harrison County elementary students, combining service with his other passion, percussion.

A member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ethan plans to attend WVU in the fall to study Biometric Engineering.

Girl of the Month for January is Anna Elizabeth Lucas, the daughter of Paul and Kristina Lucas of Quiet Dell.

Known for her commitment to academics and service, Anna has focused her high school experience on maintaining a high GPA while being active in a variety of activities. A four-year member of the Student Council, Anna has served as Junior Class Secretary and is currently Student Body Secretary. She is a member of the National Honor Society where she serves as Historian, and is listed among the National Society of High School Scholars.

Delegate to Rhododendron Girls’ State, Anna acts as an Eagle Mentor, Key Club President, and is a member of the RCB Swim Team, the Clarksburg Piranhas Swim Team, and is a Certified Lifeguard. She is a 13-year member of The Studio of the Performing Arts, where she has studied tap, clogging, hip-hop, ballet, pointe, modern, lyrical, twirling, and jazz.

Anna plans to attend Fairmont State University and major in Nursing.

Boy of the Month for February is Dylan McCullough, the son of Jim and April McCullough of Stonewood.

Throughout high school Dylan has been an active member of the Student Council, and the RCB Thespian Troupe 4846. As a thespian, he has participated in a number of school performances including “Rock of Ages” and “The End of Summer. He will also be performing in this spring’s “The Wizard of Oz.”

An Eagle Scout as well as a musician, Dylan is a four-year member of the Marching and Jazz bands, as well as the Show Choir Band. His commitment to academics as well as community service provided him an initiation into the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society.

Dylan plans to attend WVU in the fall to study Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering.

Girl of the Month for February is Lucy Thompson, the daughter of Tim and Lisa Thompson of Clarksburg.

An athlete and a scholar, Lucy has participated on the Soccer Team for four years, and as captain has been named to the 1st Team All-County, 1st Team Big Ten, and 1st Team All State. She is a four-year member of the Student Council, as well as a member of the Christian Club, Young Life, FCA, and is listed on the Superior Honor Roll. Lucy was also selected by her peers to represent them on the Homecoming Court.

A member of the Fury Soccer Club, Lucy plans to attend WVU. Her major is currently undecided.
