Boys and Girls of the Month Selected

Robert C. Byrd High School recently announced the Boys and Girls of the Month for September and October.

September Boy of the Month is Emilio Buffey, the son of John (Patch) and Constance Buffey of Clarksburg.

Emilio has been active throughout high school, participating in Key Club, Junior Humane Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, and Mayor’s Youth Council. Athletically, he has been a four-year member and captain of the Soccer Team, Big 10 Soccer Player of the Year, and was named on two occasions to the First Team All-State Soccer Team. Additionally, Emilio holds the school record for most goals scored in a season.

Inducted into National Honor Society as a junior, Emilio serves as treasurer. He was the school representative to the HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation) his sophomore, and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) his freshman year. He was also the recipient of the Challenge program.

A member of the NCWV Emmaus Community and the Center Branch Community Church, Emilio plans to attend Fairmont State University to study Business and Computers.

September Girl of the Month is Madisen Mecala Miles, the daughter of Michael and Kristi Schwartz of Clarksburg.

A leader in the school, Madisen has been active in Student Council and serves as the West Virginia Association of Student Councils President. She is a member of Eagle Cabinet, Key Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Christian Club, and Young Life. Named to the National Honor Society, Madisen is involved with iBelieve, HOBY, FTA, and the Clarksburg Crazies.

Madisen plans to attend college to pursue a degree in Biochemistry for acceptance into the Pre-Medicine Program.

Boy of the Month for October is Seth Patrick Reed, the son of Bill and Rhonda Reed of Clarksburg.

With a focus on community service, Seth has been involved as a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council, the National Society of High Scholars, and the RCB Percussion line. He is a four-year member of the RCB JROTC where he currently serves as the Battalion Commander, having been selected to participate in both Officer Candidate School as well as Junior Cadet Leadership Camp, an honor bestowed upon only the top student cadets. Additionally, he has been active on the JROTC’s Color Guard and Rifle Team.

A Lifetime Member of the RW/WI/Kelly Miller/RCB Alumni & Friends Foundation, Seth enjoys volunteering at the local VA Nursing Home, decorating their doors at Christmas and distributing holiday cards, as well as organizing weekend food packs for RCB students.

Seth plans to attend Fairmont State University to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. His ultimate goal is to become a WV State Trooper.

Girl of the Month for October is Mica Giaquinto, the daughter of Eric and Shelly Giaquinto of Clarksburg.

A leader, Mica has been involved in a variety of organizations including National Honor Society where she serves as Vice President, the Harrison County Dream Team, the Mayor’s Youth Council, the Future Teachers of America and RAZE where she served as Vice President, and the Student Council.

Mica was on the Soccer Team, participated in the Taekwondo Club, the Chess Club, Interact, and was President of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). She is Assistant Editor of the Yearbook, 2016-17 Newspaper Blog Editor, Assistant Instructor of Karate at the YMCA, and a member of the RCB Foundation Board.

Mica plans to attend Emerson College to study Writing and Publishing.
