TEACHER FEATURE: Ms. Teresa "Terri B" Boggs

Teresa Boggs was born January 1st, 1963 in Wetzel County, West Virginia. Raised in Tyler County, Ms. Boggs was the youngest of five. She attended college at Fairmont State where she fell in love with journalism, and later returned to college at WVU to receive her masters degrees. She is in her 30th year of teaching, and her 21st at Robert C. Byrd. "I like it a lot" she commented when asked about teaching. Her favorite part about her job is the students, however when they are disrespectful it's a pet peeve. Her least favorite part of teaching is the grades. "I don't like grades" she remarked, "I don't think they measure what you know or what you learned. I think showing what you're doing is much more valuable. " Her favorite classes differ from year to year, but is usually one of her AP classes due to the discussions and experience the students bring to the table. If she wasn't a teacher, she would be a lounge singer.

One of her favorite memories is when she was awarded West Virginia's Journalism Teacher of the Year in 2003. "I didn't win because of me, I won because of my students. They worked really hard and we had a lot of fun. That's why I'm the "Queen of 117." She has the original newspaper article hanging on the wall as a testament for all who enter her room to see.
